Artist Residency: Mount Pentelicus, Athens
What to Expect
The Women’s Photo Festival Artist Residency Program provides dedicated time and space for artists and photographers to slow down, focus deeply on their practice, reflect, and develop their work within a supportive environment and uninterrupted creative time.
The festival will offer (4) residencies per year, selected through two open calls, dividing the year into two residency periods.
❋ What We Expect From Residents
Residents are expected to:
Actively engage with their artistic practice during the residency
Respect the residency space and local environment
Credit the Women’s Photo Festival and residency program when presenting work produced during the residency
Participate (when possible) in at least one public-facing activity (artist talk, online presentation, or documentation sharing)
Community engagement is encouraged but not mandatory
❋ Eligibility
This open call is open to:
Women photographers and visual artists working with photography
Emerging and mid-career artists
International and local applicants
Artists working in documentary, fine art, conceptual, experimental, or mixed-media photographic practices
Applicants must be able to work independently and manage their own production process..

Notification of Selected Artists: May 30, 2026
Residency Periods: June - October 2026
Residencies will take place at different times throughout the year and will not overlap. Each selected photographer may choose a residency period lasting between 15 and 21 days, as well as propose their preferred dates in the application.

Applications will be evaluated based on:
Artistic quality and originality
Conceptual clarity of the proposed project or practice
Relevance to photography and visual storytelling
Feasibility within the residency timeframe
Motivation and interest in working within the Penteli / Athens context

Applicants must submit:
A short artist statement / biography (max 300 words)
Project proposal or artistic intention for the residency (max 500 words)
Portfolio (10–20 images) or link to online work
Preferred residency duration (15–21 days) and proposed time period

❋ Residency Activities & Creative Opportunities
During this residency, the selected photographers are invited to develop new projects or continue existing work in a supportive and flexible environment.
Artists may choose to:
Develop new photographic projects inspired by Mount Penteli and its surrounding landscapes and communities
Work on Athens-related photographic projects, benefiting from easy access to the city
Focus on individual artistic practice, including research, conceptual development, editing, sequencing, writing, archiving, and portfolio development
The residency is located in an idyllic natural setting on Mount Pendeli in Athens, offering a calm and focused working environment, while remaining well connected to Athens city center via public bus transportation.
❋ Accommodation & Facilities
The selected photographers will be hosted for a period between 15 - 21 days in a private 50 sqm fully equipped apartment, providing a comfortable living and working space.
The residency includes:
Fully equipped kitchen facilities
Private workspace suitable for editing and project development
Access to a small printer for proofing and editing support
The residency is designed to support both creative production and artistic well-being, combining quiet nature surroundings with access to urban cultural life.
